What a thread.

It all started for me with the Star Wars cabinet arcade game, then I moved onto Kung-Fu Master and Double Dragon. After this it was all about the Amstrad CPC & Commodore Amiga and I sort of lost interest in gaming for a good while.

My interest in gaming was rekindled though by playing Tomb Raider 1 & 2 and this prompted me into buying a PS1. From here my favourites have been:

The Rogue Squadron Series (following on from my love of the Star Wars arcade game)
X-Men: Legends 1 & 2
Batman: Arkham Asylum & Arkham City
The Last Of Us

Eventually my brother introduced me to Skyrim which now has the honour of being my favourite game ever and I have currently paused my latest playthrough to allow me to create this post.

Albion, England & Skyrim forever.

Far too many to list console wise but Arcade (for younger people this was a place you went to play video games, hang out with mates and hopefully didn't die at the hands of a older kid who wanted either some money from you or your last life, before he threatened to cave your head in)

Paperboy
Tapper
Tron
Kung Fu Master
Double Dragon
Space Harrier
Out Run
Super Side Kicks Soccer

If you guys are ever up north and have time to kill check out Arcade Club, especially the one in Bury

The very first game I ever played & still my favourite. The original Space Invaders set inside a see through glass coffee table so you sat down to play - at my local squash club.

Fun times before mobile phones !

There are literally thousands of ways of doing it these days - your PC would probably be fine for the older stuff. You can get bootable images of Batocera so you can boot off a memory stick and not have to fanny around with installing emulators on Mint.

Raspberry Pi will work fine if you are happy fiddling to set it up - no need for more than a Pi2 or 3 for the systems you specify.

If you just want a quick fix then there are emulators you can run in your browser

https://megadrive-emulator.com/ (Needs an extension so at your own risk)
That's an amazing amount of helpful info, thank you! Will delve into it at the weekend.

I was just thinking, how has no one mentioned Skyrim? I could also play that game forever. I think it's my all time favorite game. It set the bar for RPG Openworld games. For me it was genre defining.
I played Oblivion and New Vegas before, and loved them. But when Skyrim came out its was, holy s*** what have they gone and done. It really was incredible. Fallout 4 built on it, and is equally impressive. But it was Skyrim that came along first and changed things.
There was a headline in a review when it first came out that i thought was perfect, "Skyrim - undeniably better than real life."
I mentioned Skyrim

Skyrim for the Nords! Death to the Thalmor! (No seriously, my favourite pastime in Skyrim is hunting and beheading those Nazi bastards)

So this will be a long list, mainly due to
listing via all the consoles I've played in the nearly 30 years I've been gaming:

- PS1: Crash Bandicoot, the first game I ever owned, a classic. Crash 2-3 and Team Racing also superb.
- Nintendo Handheld: Pokemon (Yellow, Silver, Ruby and Diamond).
- Nintendo 64: Super Mario 64, Pokemon Snap
- PS2: The original God of War 1&2 - probably my favourite single player game series of all time, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Spiderman 2, GTA San Andreas, WWE: Here Comes The Pain.
- Nintendo GameCube: Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash.
- Xbox 360: Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Guitar Hero, also the era I played a lot of FIFA (09-12) while at University.
- Nintendo Wii: Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl.
- PS4: Norse-era God Of War and Ragnarok, Batman Arkham Series, Hitman "World of Assination" trilogy, Watchdogs 2, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, both of the South Park RPGs, Marvel's Spiderman, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Red Dead Redemption 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 remake.
- PS5: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, currently loving Assassin's Creed: Shadows.

I bet there's a fair few of these gathering dust in the cellars of working men's clubs

I never liked cocktail tables, the joysticks 🕹 were at a funny position/angle, felt weird
