EA FC 25 (formerly FIFA) is virtually the only game I play, with an occasional foray into Fortnite for a quick no-strings blast around.

I used to enjoy FPS and the occasional strategy game, but with Too Many Children I don't have the time for anything more than a few minutes at a time, so I can't really get into them now.

Yup. Pingu takes priority over PlayStation these days!

Never been a huge gamer in adulthood tbh, but grew up with the C64 and Spectrum48...used to enjoy the games for those as a kid. Still have Jet Pac & Hunter Killer (submarine game) in my parents attic with the 48+, joysticks and cassette player etc.
There was one game my mate had for the C64 that I dont remember the name of, but it was great fun. You had to build your own "3D" racing track, then you could choose your car / truck / bike etc to race each other. Great fun. Also remember spending months with my late brother trying to finish Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The only "modern" games I really enjoyed were the early Tomb Raiders, & Medal of Honour (the one set in the Pacific). Really good.

There are literally thousands of ways of doing it these days - your PC would probably be fine for the older stuff. You can get bootable images of Batocera so you can boot off a memory stick and not have to fanny around with installing emulators on Mint.
Got a spectrum for Christmas. Has anyone bought one of those preloaded USB game sticks? I know it’s possible to do this myself online, but I haven’t the time or the tech knowledge. Many of the ones I’ve seen advertised are very vague about the games that are included. Any good ones?

Normally they will have most of the games you are looking for but there will be multiple copies of roms and the number they claim is often bogus. Every Spectrum game ever made will be a small download as the files are tiny. Around 50k compared to the multiple GB of PS2/PS3.

Some people will sell links to an image on Google Drive. I got a Retro pie image that way. Just flash the image and away you go.

The reason I said thousands of ways is that there are so many Chinese emulation devices. Ranging from dodgy Famiclone devices that play just NES games to proper handhelds supporting up to N64 or above. You can use a Firestick or hack something like a PlayStation Mini and make it play other systems. The original Xbox was considered a great emulation device if you knew how to hack it.

With a little bit of caution, most options will work. Avoid the ridiculous cheap multi TB disks as they will be hacked much smaller disks reporting to be bigger. Don't let an external disk autorun in case there is malware lurking. But there are so many curated romsets out there that most will be legit.

I Most certainly am (y) Thanks for the reminder iv'e played every mission of every Stronghold game (many times) . Currently playing mission 80 but its all consuming. Have you played it?

Never, it passed me by, but I’m definitely being tempted to get involved. I love finding out about these games that have retained a following over decades, they always repay investigation.

If you want you gave a go yourself, here is a zip file with every game ever for the Speccy. Presuming you have the Retro Games Limited remake, just buy yourself the cheapest USB stick you can find as they will all be far too big and just copy the games you want from the zip file. You could put every file on but the menu would be unusable with tens of thousands. Just find the ones you want and enjoy.

I recently got myself a steam deck and downloaded Skyrim to test it out not having played it since it was released. That is a brilliant game.

So this will be a long list, mainly due to
listing via all the consoles I've played in the nearly 30 years I've been gaming:

- PS1: Crash Bandicoot, the first game I ever owned, a classic. Crash 2-3 and Team Racing also superb.
- Nintendo Handheld: Pokemon (Yellow, Silver, Ruby and Diamond).
- Nintendo 64: Super Mario 64, Pokemon Snap
- PS2: The original God of War 1&2 - probably my favourite single player game series of all time, Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Spiderman 2, GTA San Andreas, WWE: Here Comes The Pain.
- Nintendo GameCube: Super Smash Bros Melee, Mario Kart Double Dash.
- Xbox 360: Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Guitar Hero, also the era I played a lot of FIFA (09-12) while at University.
- Nintendo Wii: Super Mario Galaxy 1&2, Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl.
- PS4: Norse-era God Of War and Ragnarok, Batman Arkham Series, Hitman "World of Assination" trilogy, Watchdogs 2, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag, both of the South Park RPGs, Marvel's Spiderman, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Red Dead Redemption 2, Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 remake.
- PS5: Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, currently loving Assassin's Creed: Shadows.
Crash Bandicoot add Tomb Raider PS1 they saved me a fortune, i instantly stopped going to the Pub many happy hours were had there.

Been playing video/computer games for 40 years. A few I've enjoyed are:
Elite (C64)
Magic Pockets (Atari ST)
Shades (text only online RPG played on Prestel then internet)
For ages now I've been playing 7 Days To Die, a zombie/building/crafting game. According to Steam I've got about 2700 hours in it 😲

Not to derail but seems an appropriate place - if anyone is selling/willing to sell GameCube games/controllers, please DM me.

My son has become utterly obsessed by Luigi’s Mansion recently, and Smash Bros also. I’m quite happy to lean him away from Xbox to the more child friendly Nintendo stuff.

I can’t help with this directly as I sold off all my retro collection a few years ago, but some advice: hopefully a kind soul here can hook you up! Just a word of warning though, prices can be outrageous on eBay, so don’t be afraid to go third party for a good deal cheaper if you are forced to go that route.

Some further advice, the best controller in my opinion is the Wavebird, it’s the official wireless GC controller, but honestly that’s just a preference and they’re all fine if the condition is good and no stick drift.
