He’s also being asked to play this inverted full back/wing back role… and the guy in front of him keeps switching, so he’s probably not sure whether he’s reverting to a 5 at the back when we defend or staying in the four.

He probably is knackered, but he’s probably just confused about what he’s supposed to be doing.

At least when Veltman plays you know he’s not going to move from that spot because he simply can’t do it. But when we put Hinsh there or Lamptey, they’re asked to do so much more offensively.
Veltman's actually been quite a bit more advanced under Fab.
Primarily still a defender, obviously & frankly superb at it. Hope his foot heals quickly

I've no doubt if we had any experienced full back options at all, Jack would have been rested by now.

I'd rest him for the weekend anyway, but not for Tasker

The way I look at it, the first job of a full back is to be difficult to beat, so start there and work out your selection. Gomez and Wieffer considerations, but possibly Minteh a better option with his pace. But then I also hate inverted full backs and he has no right foot. Some sort of Adingra for 60, March for 30 combo is possible.

Also maybe we could tell Baleba an hour before kick off he's playing full back today.

No compelling choice

No. So play Tasker.

If we're purely going on winning at the weekend, which I think we should be, I reckon you're better off playing a senior player out of position than a debutant.

I'd go Adingra and then March on the hour. I reckon it's probably the least bad selection available

The counter argument is that you can develop a young player. Though chucking one in from the start when you're basically out of options probably won't help his development much. Better to play them when you think they're ready. Only FH will know when this is.

Like we did with Hinshelwood and Ayari for instance. Agree that FH is the one ITK, who will decide. Doesn't mean we can't have an opinion on NSC!

Yes, it feels like no Veltman and van Hecke, no party... although I haven't checked the stats on that.
In our recent run of good results, Veltman played in 2 of the 6 wins.

Equally, he played in the 1-0 loss to Everton, and the 7-0 loss to Forest.

He’s an important member of the team, but he doesn’t make us invincible, and he’s had our best defender next to him for most of his performances, as well as a ridiculously hard working right wingers in front of him, particularly of late. Both of these things help.

Veltman's actually been quite a bit more advanced under Fab.

Sure, a bit, but he doesn’t do it anywhere near as effectively as the other options in that position.

And even then, he’s not interpreting the role Lamptey or Hinsh do. He’s rarely getting around the outside of our winger or coming into midfield to help control the game.

And that isn’t a criticism of him - Veltman is excellent at what he does well defensively - but he’s clearly not asked to perform the RB role in the same tactical manner Hinsh has been asked to.

Which goes back to the original point - Hinsh is being asked to interpret a role that’s not his best in quite a complicated way. I think we’re asking a lot of him, given his age and lack of real experience.

Yep, very good, thanks for adjusting my perception 👍

Fab said as much in a recent presser
Fab needs to forget a little about being Fab fit and have a little more guile and experience
FH said that Solly isn't fit enough to play any more than 30/35 minutes this season, and indicated that a good pre-season will enable him to start next season.
As I see it, Fab fitness is not normal and it is close to breaking players. I'd prefer the quality, guile and experience of a March, to a headless Minteh, give Minteh game time to improve but he isn't ready yet and March is.
I stand by Fab doesn't rate March.

Only because recruiting a right back seems to be the recruitment teams kryptonite.

Lamptey and Veltman are both injured to much to be relied on, Ferdi versatile but injured all season. Lamptey should have been moved on last summer at least and another reliable body in.
Do we reckon the longer term plan is a back three? It would explain why so many wingers and No10s desired/bought? So something like:

Verbruggen
Van Hecke, PaceynewCB, Cashin/Igor/Webby
Minteh. Ferdi
Baleba Hinshelwood
Rutter. Mitoma
Welbeck/Tzimas

The versatility and defensive attributes of the midfield four are the only way we'd likely get away with it. Reckon Hinsh's being played as a defender is both to plug the gaps, to benefit from his football intelligence and to build for what we'll need next season.

* I reckon we'll sell Joao Pedro this simmer
** I'm desperate that we hold on to Baleba but think if City/Liverpool/Arsenal bid £100m+ we'll sell. Think this is more likely than not.

I also think it’s likely Joao Pedro will go this summer but hopefully we’ll keep Baleba S I don’t think anyone will pay Walmart we want for him.
Maybe Mitoma also.

My opinion is that you can have an opinion.
But other opinions are available.
