Trying to be optimistic. I hope next season can be a special one like this season, at times, promised to be (yes, yes this is the same for every fan). TB thinks long term so I’m trying to too.

Our newish bunch of young players will have had a season of PL football as will Fab. We might be able to beat the relegation fodder at home (would have meant 8 more points this season). Then, looking at other teams:

City: any docked points will happen next season

Villa: might have some struggles financially (will cope with Emery though you’d suspect)

Chelsea: might have some struggles financially if they fail to reach CL

Forest: they might struggle to cope with their brand of football if also in Europe every week.

Bournemouth/Fulham/Palace: some of their managers might get poached

In some ways, it might be better if we’re not in Europe to really go for Europe. Spurs, Utd might improve though and Everton under Moyes might be pushing top half on current form. We’d also need to sign a decent full back and centre back too which might blow up the algorithm in terms of potential returns.

Until I know who will be managing us and our transfer window, not a clue

There are strong similarities between this lot and the gang from 21/22 (that would eventually take us to top 6 in 22/23). Long trends of good or bad form, many talents slowly and in some cases rapidly getting used to the league and all its complexities.

Midfield and attack doesn't need new players, just time.

A bunch of defenders will be coming in because our age structure there requires it. One starting CB also needs to be brought in, two if Van Hecke leaves. Would allow us to use Webster and Dunk more sparesly which should benefit them.

Then we're good to go for a real challenge for European football of some sort.

Hoping Liam Rosenoir comes back in the next few years.

Big season for Fab next year, and a number of players.
Agreed!
Failure to acquire European football this season will put a lot of pressure on Fabian.
Been unlucky with injuries but failure to get all three points in home games against the bottom 4 is unforgivable.

Unfortunately, Winstanley has his claws in LR. Maybe the next Chelsea boss after Maresca. If not the one after that and a pay rise at BlueCo owned Strasbourg

Saw that in The Athletic, the only thing is he does have more ‘pull’ in terms of us, and being an incredibly sensible chap, surely realises that Chelsea is a poison chalice at the best of times.

Just like every other manager on the planet, he would not pick us over Chelsea. Poison chalice or not, people choose £10m in a CL/EL club over £1m in a mid-table PL club.

I hope we don't break the mould again, and spaff £200M on new players. Leaving aside the question of whether some of them are any better than what we had (putting it kindly in one or two cases), trying to shoe-horn half a dozen new players (more than half a team) - and eight after January - into a tightly knit team was never going to bode well. Two or three good buys is refreshing - and hopefully improving - the team. 6 to 8 new players is breaking up the band. Which is what it feels kike we have done.

I'm optimistic for next season. I expect us to be tighter and better against the lower league teams.

At least 2 decent overlapping full backs, a centre back and a centre forward or its another disappointment.

Oh and ship out a couple of number 10s and probably need to upgrade our wingers.

Oh and a new keeper.

Oh and a new manager
