There's lots of two's and just keep naming new bands after yourself doesn't count.

From the posts so far, Clapton, Stevie Winwood. I think Stephen Stills is dodgy, David Crosby had two big bands and a solo career and did far more drugs and had more fun

Josh Homme - QOTSA, Kyuss, Them Crooked Vultures, Mondo Generator, Desert Sessions, Eagles Of Death Metal

Scott 'Wino' Weinrich - The Obsessed, St Vitus, Spirit Caravan, Shrinebuilder

Justin Broadrick - Godflesh, Jesu, Zonal, Napalm Death, Greymachine

Aaron Turner - ISIS, Sumac, Old Man Gloom, Greymachine

Steven Brodsky - Cave In, Old Man Gloom, Converge

Maynard James Keenan - Tool, A Perfect Circle, Puscifer

Every single one, a huge commercial success. Are you @Harry Wilson's tackle's alternative account :lolol:

I have heard of Tool.
But it may be a different Tool

I'll post mine shortly.

If we're allowed to dip our toes into the heavier side of things Max Cavalera has four:

Sepultura
Soulfly
Cavalera Conspiracy
Killer Be Killed
Howard Jones - Killswitch Engage, Light the Torch, SION
Jesse Leach - Killswitch Engage, Times of Grace, Killswitch Engage again, The Empire Shall Fall
Ronnie James Dio - Rainbow, Sabbath, Dio
Corey Taylor - Slipknot, Stone Sour and solo work

Less metal focused
Jack White - The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather

Think that's all I've got off the top of my head...

Unless you count Buster Odeholm, as the reason all of his bands sound like they do is because of him. Absolute visionary in the metal genre. Humanity's Last Breath, Vildhjarta and Thrown wouldn't be what they are without him.

Ritchie Blackmore

Deep Purple
Rainbow
Blackmore's Night

To be honest, I've never heard of Blackmore's Night but assumed he had more than the first two. Bearing in mind the amount of changes to the line ups of Deep Purple and more so Rainbow they should both count as multiple bands!!

Beat me to it. Utter genius and sad to hear he's had some serious heart issues. The only issue is that he's wasted the last few years with all the Blackmore's Night medieval minstrel nonsense with his wife. There should have been plenty of more rock to offer the world.

Ian Astbury

Southern Death Cult
Death Cult
The Cult
Arguably the first two are incarnations of the same band, replacing members. However ->

The Cult
The Doors of the 21st Century
Holy Barbarians

The last two both toured.

Robert Pollard has at least 10

and before I get into this

I have purchased records by all of the following which makes them proper big bands as far as I am concerned

and beyond the bands there are a lot of side projects that I have missed

and truly great collaborations under 'Fading Captain' which were solo(ish) such as this ABSOLUTE BEAUTY

“Proper big bands” is doing some seriously heavy lifting in this thread.
A big band is only and always only ever what is big in my tiny mind.

Or else it is just
The Beatles,
The Rolling Stones
Bob Dylan
The Who
Led Zeppelin
The Grateful Dead
Hot Chocolate
Mud
The Sweet
The Partridge Family
The Osmonds,
Girls Allowed
Boyzone
Bread
Yes
Emerson Lake and Palmer
Black Sabbath,
Muse
Coldfuckingplay
and f***ing Queen

As the great Roy Keane once said,
You can shove that (lot) up your bollocks.
Fact.
