The Catholic ‘faith’ is Christian. Ordination of women is allowed in other Christian denominations.

The Catholic stance on women is to do with doctrines of the ‘man-made’ church and a strong patriarchal system of organised religion.

Appreciate though, as the Pope, there was a limit to what he could achieve within the existing framework of the doctrines of the Catholic Church.

As I said though, as Popes go, he was one of the better ones.
Man made or not, Muslims are not pressured in the same way Christians are to liberalise by the left wing. Protestantism is very diverse, from right wing nutters to left wing nutters. Rome tries to keep to what they view the religion is all though there is room to liberalise in the future in their dogma. As we have seen with this Pope (who for Rome standards) and I say Rome standards, was a liberal. He was so much of a liberal by Rome standards traditional Catholics did not like him.

As a Catholic I believe he was one of the better Pope’s that has served. He loved his football and that also endeared me to him.

RIP.

If a Cardinal has the name Pope and is elected Pope by the Conclave will he be known as Pope Pope? Will he be a grandfatherly figure?
Huge week for England’s Ollie Pope coming up then?

Just told my 16 yo son about his demise.
His response was the Pope of where?
I appreciate this is reflective of teenage world knowledge, but no offence, doesn’t this type of knowledge start at home, even in an atheist household? It’s unfathomable to me that a child could reach 16 and not know, if not his name, then at the very least the role of the Pope.

I was offered double my money back and a hotel room in Florence if was willing to give up my hotel room near the vatican

You can't say the Catholic church isn't a shrewd business enterprise. I'm sure they got more than double what you paid.

He was a Catholic, like or not Women’s ordination is not allowed in their faith. Islam is the same, yet we rarely see the left calling for women imams.
May I be the first lefty to demand that we should have women Imams.
There is a massive groundswell among Muslim women for equality and access to all aspects of Islamic life.
Join me today in solidarity with Muslim women by petitioning the Chief Imam to change this antiquated dogma.
We on the left need to stand shoulder to shoulder with millions of oppressed Muslim women who

The liberal Filipino Cardinal Tagle favourite going into the Conclave.

Cardinal Turkson as the first Pope from the continent of Africa looks good value at 5/1.
I’m not committing my hard earned until I’ve seen a Sistine Chapel pitch report.

It is time to pressure Muslims.
I feel totally and utterly excluded from Islam by the conservative attitude to the things I hold dear.
As a dedicated left winger I insist we stand up to reactionary Islamic perspectives at every possible
