Would be nice if we could find some sort of healthy middle ground between sending them to El Salvador death camps and accommodating any paedo or phone thief that fancies chancing their arm on a flimsy dinghy crossing.

The healthy middle ground would be to have a properly funded method of processing asylum claims (ideally from people whilst they are still abroad like we used to before the last Government changed everything). Something I posted some years ago

And there is a very simple solution which has been explained numerous times which would turn these 'costs' into a positive tax income for the Treasury.

Reverse the steps taken by the current Government over the last 13 years. Namely,

1. Reinstate the ability to claim Asylum from abroad and let those granted asylum come into Britain, start work and contribute to Society.
2. Reopen legal Asylum routes to allow claimants
3. Work with Interpol again to target people traffickers
4. Re-employ more caseworkers to clear the backlog of applications.

You will then reverse the current Government policy of forcing asylum seekers into the hands of people smugglers and risking their lives in the channel. Interestingly, the Government's policy of having 10's of thousands arriving across the channel completely uncontrolled and not processing them, has allowed all sorts of people to get in, something Albanian gangs caught onto quickly, obviously far more competent than our Government

Boat Crossings
(Numbers weren't recorded prior to 2018 as the government thought them inconsequential).
2018 - 299
2019 - 1,890
2020 - 8,466
2021 - 28,526
2022 - 45,755

Asylum Backlog
2012 - 9,800
2018 - 27,000
2022 - 161,000

Because if you actually process them, you don't have to pay for barges, flights to Rwanda, Hostels, etc or any of this other complete bolleaux and those that are approved can start work and pay tax.

Or, alternatively, people can continue to believe this whole ridiculous 'illegal immigrant' narrative from this disgusting inhumane cabal of proven liars and let them continue to royally take the piss out of them and treat them like ridiculously naïve, slavering idiots

The current Government are starting to address this but far too slowly and I'm somewhat surprised to hear you still reciting the last Government's tropes ???

I love a good headline

Number of UK asylum seekers awaiting appeals up by nearly 500% in two years

I don't think there's ever been any doubt that you are a headline writer's absolute dream target audience :lolol:

Detail, Facts and reasons (in the article you linked)

In the last three months of 2024, there were 12,183 appeals lodged following steps taken by the Labour government to restart asylum decision-making when it arrived in office. Under Yvette Cooper’s Home Office, the number of people receiving initial decisions in the latest quarter, October to December 2024, was more than double that of the previous three months.

The MoJ is undertaking annual recruitment of about 1,000 judges and tribunal members across all courts and tribunals.

Maybe not so much :dunce:

8,150 folk arriving by boat so far this year, the Government seriously needs to get a grip of this, the crossing season hasn’t really started yet either, it won’t be long until they have tented villages to house these people!

UK and France in talks over migrant returns deal https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c99pg1men8po
750 new arrivals in the last week. I reckon 2025 will see close to the Amex Capacity migrants arrive by boat 🤔

I wouldn’t worry too much, most will be gone on 85 minutes.

'full background checks' sorry thats hilarious! The UAE and in particularly Dubai has become the new costa del sol in terms of harbouring criminals, including drugs cartel bosses, money launderers and scammers! They will pretty much accept anyone in provided they have money and then go out of their way to provide them with as much secrecy and protection from extradition as possible!
Totally unrelated to this, there’s a decent multi episode documentary on the Kinahan OCG on Sky at the minute

I can't believe that people are still falling for this.

I suppose somehow people have been persuaded that helping others costs so much more than other stuff.

I have never seen any kind of comparison, though.

It is hard to believe but the same people keep falling for it, again and again, whether it's Farage, Brexit, Johnson, Truss, etc

My favourite bit is when these same people then call out Americans who voted for Trump as being gullible and stupid

You'd think they would be happy they now have a government that are starting to process the backlog.

But no apparently they want the grifters back who waste millions on not processing them. All while persuading the hard of thinking that they are they only party capable of fixing the 'problem'.

Or are the now even more convinced that Farage and Reform are the answer?

You couldn't make it up. 🤣

Substitute drivers, what could possibly go wrong, all Deliveroo have to do is stop this process of allowing substitute riders.

Within weeks of arriving on these shores migrants are out delivering food with no right to work and uninsured.

In some cases, asylum seekers who crossed the Channel were found to have been earning up to £1,500 per month from food deliveries while staying in government-funded hotels.

There’s thousands of tickets on the exchange for tomorrow BUT the English channel conditions are looking good; blue sky and like a mill pond …maybe we will get a full house against West Ham after all?

If Britain gave them more rights to work they could then take these jobs legitimately and start paying taxes.

Even Australia, darling of the anti-immigrant policy wonks, gives asylum seekers more rights.

The UK is harsher than all other comparative countries when it comes to the right to work for people seeking asylum. Nations in the EU, North America and Australasia allow people to work unconstrained by job lists and much sooner after they place their asylum applications.

While I think there is some merit in shortage occupation lists from a strategic perspective, making people wait a year during which they have to survive on a pittance provided by tax payers is self-defeating and cruel.

As well as its own expenditure, Government creates further costs for businesses through this whack-a-mole approach.

Good point, 1.6ft waves, they only need to get offshore by a few hundred yards and the RNLI will be be there to take them over to Dover and onto their 4 star hotels, Barber could meet them and give them free tickets

Good conditions for most of next week, i reckon we are looking at a 1000 plus new hotel guests/deliveroo drivers next week

I've just had a quick look and can't see where you've explained your solution, what you obviously perceive to be one of the major issues in Britain today ?

Maybe in your own words, rather than a link to a headline

Off out for lunch, so no hurry :bigwave:

Maybe this explains the processing backlog? Mohammed landed in December 2024 but he's still listening to Barber.
