[Albion] The Ticket Exchange - what's the point?

This is the point.

I took the kids to the cricket at Sussex a couple of weeks ago as it was free. They now 100% want to go back. Would I have taken the chance on tickets when they might not have liked it? Probably not.

Sure there's terms and conditions in things, to stop you passing on your ticket, to stuff but nobody bothers enforcing it because they are not actually losing out.

In the clubs case they stand to gain from people getting the bug, but as ever corporate petty mindedness predominates
Did you not notice the swathes of empty seats at the County Ground? They 100% want to go back??…. They’d better hurry up if they want to watch Championship cricket!!

Comparing county championship cricket (Sussex) with EPL football (Albion) is like comparing the corner shop with Waitrose

Joining costs £38, 38 quid per ticket seems to be a reasonable price to see Brighton West Ham?

As an aside, it's 44 for international supporters......I wonder why they are charged more?
I'm only guessing, but maybe the higher charge is to cover cost of sending the membership pack and goodies overseas.

I see. I didn’t realise you got a pack and some goodies.

I've listed my ticket twice this season and it hasn't sold (Spurs & Leicester).

I am listing it for this Saturday as well, but not expecting it to sell as the exchange hasn't opened yet.

Maybe
From thetrainline.com:

Can I share my Season ticket?

No, you can’t share a Season ticket, including Monthly Season Tickets. These tickets are assigned to a specific person and are non-transferable. For your Season ticket to be valid, you must show your matching Photocard when asked.
Maybe you can share it if you both look the same?

Anyway, a constructive idea….

Maybe the club could build a database of underprivileged kids/adults across the area (working with charities, health workers etc). Just a few hundred to start with. Perhaps reviewed and updated annually.

Then give season ticket holders who can’t make a home match the option to DONATE their tickets on the Ticket Exchange - whether the match has sold out or not. (Maybe with at least two weeks’ notice, to allow admin)

The club then randomly allocates dontated tickets to folk on the list. Some might end up going a few times in a season.

Obviously there’s some overheads for the club - a fair amount of admin and checks.

But it doesn’t ‘devalue’ the tickets. They’re not being freely handed around. The club has full visibility.

It broadens the fanbase. Gives some cheer. Fills seats. Makes season ticket holders feel good.

Splendid concept.

However if the tickets are 'singles' then logistically tricky if carers etc are involved.

The point for me is that it has enabled me to recoup hundreds of pounds when I've been unable to use my tickets, and has allowed some other Albion fans to get to a game they might otherwise have missed.
As a non-STH can I say ^^ THIS.

1901 Club tickets allow you to transfer your tickets to anyone for free, and pop them on the exchange if you want to flog them. If this is something which has value to you then maybe put your name down, the club are currently scouting interest for the next 5 year cycle.

And thank you! I have been able to get 1901 Club tickets on the exchange which would not have been possible otherwise.

Seats get filled; better for atmosphere; and people like me get some really good seats that wouldn’t be available unless STHs put the best seats on the exchange.

That for me is the ‘point of the ticket exchange’.

It also means that when I buy a 1901/STH ( when I reach retirement age), I am not obligated to attend every home game yet still get all the benefits not available to Albion+ members ( eg first in line for ticket sales)

If they don’t sell, they don’t sell but what other annual membership or season ticket for anything allows you to trade back costs if you decide not to use it at every opportunity?

This is a sensible idea - ie you don’t get ££ back - and some PL clubs do similar. And it counts towards your “utilisation”

I've been lucky with having quite a high success rate when I've listed my tickets on the exchange for re-sale, but I have three things in my favour:

1. I have two tickets together. Pairs seem to sell far more easily than singles.
2. My tickets are in the WSU, so are amongst the cheapest tickets available to buy.
3. My tickets are in the front row and I think most people choose to be closer to the pitch if they can.

Similar for us. A pair in the NS on an aisle. Villa was the only game I can recall when they didn’t sell on the Exchange (or was it even open?).

I suggests this to the club for the Brentford Boxing Day match a few years back and said I’d happily gift my tickets to charity / Albion in the community etc, club response was admin but we will look at it…
