[Football] Wallet checking

This was a first for me.
Steward insisted in checking my wallet on going into the ground on Saturday. On questioning him he said it was club policy and he needed to look for drugs. I asked him how he would do that and will he be taking all my cards out? I reluctantly handed it to him and kind of wished I’d made more of a fuss. My main worry was that he would find my old Blockbuster Video card From 1997.
Anyway- another club to add to my ever increasing list of grounds to dislike.
Blockbuster? Glad I didn't make the game as might not have handled the shame of having a Matalan card. And had they scoffed at a 60 year old carrying an Iron Maiden fan club card I'd have kicked off!

And there's more ...

Very interesting. Has anyone contacted Barber for his observations on this?

My brother David, who worked at Blockbuster headquarters in McKinney, Texas before they closed it, still lives in McKinney, has helped a collector get some of the Blockbuster items. If anybody has any Blockbuster items that collector might be interested in purchasing them.

A steward tried to confiscate my HyloForte eye drops (which have a push up action) at the Amex, until I pointed out they were just eye drops which I use for medication on my very dry eyes. I have no idea what he though they actually were.
I have felt like I should carry my prescription form with me at times so that I can prove they are prescribed.

When we had the European games last season, I had my walking stick examined (apparently it is UEFA rules?)
Did they discover the sword secreted inside the walking stick 😉

Worthing
Just weird.

Someone next to me challenged the need, and the officious response from the senior steward was, “it’s a condition of entry mate, you don’t have to come in.”

Most unfriendly ground in the division, and arguably the crappiest stadium as well. Preferred Griffin Park.

Bigger question, eh what do you mean?
Lots of people carry a wallet, I don’t understand your point or question
I carry a very minimalistic wallet when going to games. Just a couple of cards in case I end up someone which is cash only and I need to get some cash out. But also my driving licence in case of an ID check. There's no way I'd just carry my driving licence in my pocket as much more likely to loose it.

If I'm just heading out locally, I often don't take my wallet and will just rely on Apple Pay for coffee/cake purchases and a bit of shopping etc.

Same for me. He was extremely thorough. Half expected an 'intimate' physical examination the way things were going. It's only Brentford v Brighton, mate...

That’s an interesting point about data protection. A wallet can contain a lot of personal and sensitive data. I wonder what processes Brentord have in place to protect this in the hands of a load of random stewards….quite possibly nothing.

Just far enough away from LDC

This is the kind of thing an independent football regulator could be interested in I'm sure

I have a wallet for work that has credit card, debit card, Screwfix account trade card and driving licence. Always carry some cash to use for food or occasional small materials where I haven’t got an account.

Football I carry a small wallet with debit card and I have a photo season ticket card that the club issued for free when they stopped doing the old ST card, it has expired but could be useful for ID.
Also carry cash as I may want something on my way home.

My wallet got the full treatment. Said he was looking for Blades. FFS.
I could stick a few to the soles of my trainers. But at 64, I don't think so.

You should have told him they're up in Burnley.

In all seriousness, looking for blades is just ridiculous. I wonder where these stewards are getting their instructions from ... or are they just making it up as they go for laughs.
