Lovely stuff. Welcome back @Trigger.

For me the answer is Liverpool. And that is of course because they won absolutely everything when I was growing up. Or because my dad supported them so I had no choice. Or because I've always supported them actually. I can't remember anymore.

I followed Aston Villa and Brighton as a kid, with a weird thing for Swindon Town. I had a thing for Villa as my brother brought me, for no apparent reason, and Aston Villa belt. I was also them in the subbuteo league at St Luke's, winning the title in 1981 to match the team. Aston Villa won the European Cup and started to lose interest after that. I'm the original un-glory hunter. If Albion did make a step up I'd have to bin them off for a dull and localish league team. Might have to make a return to Gillingham.

Always Brighton.
First game in 75.

Have a soft spot for Wolves for a number of reasons (first ever Brighton game being one).
I also enjoy Molineaux as we normally do well Ward hat trick on an icy pitch.

Tottenham in my teens. Glory hunter after they achieved the league and FA Cup double plus boyhood hero Jimmy Greaves. Father working for the railway and very cheap tickets from Haywards Heath helped. The beginning of the change was when Bobby Smith came to us.

First club for me, was Brighton United.

After that I supported Brighton and Hove Rangers before Brighton and Hove Albion became my team for life.

You’re wearing well old boy…..
Thank you very much. 🙂

I have to admit though that being a pure emotion and unencumbered by your Earthly vessels probably gives me an advantage there.

Grew up opposite hove station , brother was brighton supporter, used to look out seeing the crowds leave the pub and walk down the stairs to the goldstone, so in answer to your question no one was always a brighton supporter

Which team did you follow before Brighton became a half decent side?
Brighton.

But when I was at school in 1969 all of us also followed a division 1 side.
Mine was Leeds.
There was no conflict because division 3 football was a completely different game.
And, yes, I saw Leeds 'live' a few times. At Chelsea in 1970. At Southampton around 71.
Also at Palace in the late 70s, after I had lost interest, but when invited to join in with some college chums.

Brighton was the first football team I knew. I remember kids in my class going and being jealous as no-one in my family was into football. Maybe that’s why I didn’t know if any of the ‘big clubs’.
I eventually went on an organised Cub trip and sat in the West Stand at the Goldstone. Pleased to say I followed no-one before Brighton. Followed a few different teams since due to geographical factors, but Brighton were my first love.

You jest but I had a chat with a guy in the NS before the Forest game who eventually outed himself as a Liverpool fan who had Brighton as his 'second team'. Had just been talking general Albion stuff up to that point -(his memory was 'a bit hazy' pre-promotion) and he dropped that out of the blue. Had a little laugh to myself when he said how devastated he was when they lost the League Cup final, then moved on.

As a paid up member of the “lost generation” I supported Man Utd because my school friend did (and all the twats supported Liverpool). After school stopped supporting a team in particular until I came to the Amex in the first season with a mate and the rest is history.
