My dad was a Streamline cabbie post WW2 until 80s. IIRC the garage was at one time only for taxis where the mechanic was "Uncle Bernard". My dad had a few years as office manager and I sometimes used to "help" him out (probably when my mum had had enough of me!).

Happy days. RIP Dad
My grandad was involved with Streamine at the same time as your dad, so they must’ve known each other. He owned the plates to 4 cabs and was involved from the early days.

There is so much going on in this picture. History frozen in time.
To see so many sidecar motorbikes to start with. Is that person stood still and why are they dressed like that?
Do we have a date?
There's also the tram lines and the tram power cables overhead. Is there a map anywhere of the tram routes in Brighton when they were in operation? Seems quite a steep road for a tram...

Back then you had to do your time as a journeyman before you could get your plate. It was very much "dead mans shoes" and ownership of the plate was highly prized. Then the legislation changed and anybody could have a plate so the Council issued more hackney carriage plates and there was an open market free for all. I'm afraid I can't remember many of dad's contemporaries from that time now.
