Are you suggesting that when Lloyd Russell-Moyle announced this suspension and said "I wish Keir Starmer, Angela Rayner, and the Labour team the best of luck and hope to be celebrating Labour wins across Sussex and beyond on election night", that he was actually lying

Why? If I were at work and a claim of, say, sexual harassment (of which there's no indication here, to be clear, just an example) was brought against me and I had to be suspended, I sure as hell wouldn't want everyone knowing about it until due process was followed. Not just any allegation. There needs to be primae facie evidence. But yes, an opponent can hijack a candidacy. As we saw in the recent by elections with Labour needing to withdraw a candidate and not being able to replace them

The assumption is that the allegation would have been thrown out unless there was enough evidence to launch an investigation.

The timing may well be down to the complainant not wanting LMR to get another term but that might be for a genuine reason.

It’s all speculation but as you say, you can’t just make an allegation and the party take action without enough evidence to warrant an investigation.
