My memory must be faulty because I read something I wrote on FB the other day from three or four years ago. If you want a good penalty give it to a German.

@Stato have you got any stats please?
He scored 6 and missed 3 in games for us.

I’m with @macbeth, he never filled me with confidence from the spot, even a couple that he scored he got a bit lucky with. Had an odd technique for penalties that I never liked.

A man of many many talents but penalty taking wasn’t his biggest.

Mac Allister was very good from the spot as others have said.

Transfermarkt lists players penalty records. Click on the names for the link. For Brighton:

Mac Allister 6/7

Gross 6/9

Joao Pedro 15/16 (and he scored from the rebound on the one that was saved).

Knight 8/9 (but not against any EPL keepers).

Really? Remember him being good at many things but not penalties. Missed a fair few and never looked convincing when he did score
Especially one he took at the Amex against Palarse. All their keeper needed to do, was bend down and pick the ball up!

Yes he took a few but l don't remember him as being our designated penalty taker for any length of time.

Stats aren't available for Nobby but I'm fairly sure that every penalty he took was a sweetly struck thunderbolt that crashed into the back of the net like Hotshot Hamish....

Groß scored 6 and missed 3 for us. His career stats are 12 scored and 4 missed.

Alexis Mac Allister was also excellent from the spot for us, scored 8 and missed 1. His last penalty was at the end of the home game against Man United, has there ever been a higher pressure penalty than that?

I had no doubts in mind though, he was going to score. I wasn’t feeling the same for Joao Pedros last min penalty against Fulham a few weeks ago but that might have been due to us never having beaten them before.

From my time watching the Albion both Joao Pedro and Tomer Hemed are hands down the best two penalty takers at the club. though l find it impossible to choose between them

Prior to that Muzza and Bobby Z were pretty successful, and the only two others who seemed to score more than they missed were Watto, and Alan Curbishley back in our Goldstone days. When l sarted watching the club back in the mid 1980's Danny Wilson was the man given the role, and he did pretty well too.

We have had many others who have had the task too of course, but who has stood out for you?
Muzza and Bobby Z were bang average penalty takers. Absolutely nowhere near the levels of Pedro.

There was an article in the Athletic recently analysing Pedro's technique where Glen Murray said that his record was about 7.5 out of 10 and he never bothered practising them "because you can't recreate that pressure scenario", while he also praised Pedro's near 9.5/10 record (who practices them every training session). The mind boggles, honestly.

I was a very successful pen taker in my early bookie days. They started chaining them though.

Murray used to give me a near heart attack every time he took a pen. I seem to remember he rolled it into a corner , but unlike J.Pedro he didn't look to see which way the keeper was going before doing so.

I liked MaCallister's pens the most. Hard, accurate and generally into the roof of the net, giving the keeper next to no chance even if he goes the right way. Successful as they were, Hemed and JP's method of committing the keeper before rolling the ball in makes me nervous. I'm quite glad that JP has gone a bit more traditional in his recent pens.
