From Kyiv Independent, Trump's reaction to the deadly strikes on Kyiv overnight.
Gosh, Trump is so forceful and condemning of Putin - is Trump so very stupid that he doesn't understand Putin is laughing in his face????????? It's genocide, Trump.

"I am not happy with the Russian strikes on Kyiv. Not necessary, and very bad timing. Vladimir, Stop!" Trump said on the Truth Social platform, after 12 people were killed in Kyiv overnight on April 24, and nearly 80 others were injured.

The north-west passage passes through Canada. It doesn't go near Russia. And Trump obviously isn't taking Canada
This is tricky.

Canada sees the northwest passage as internal waters - based on historic claims, and supported by contemporary tools such as the Canadian Arctic Waters Pollution Prevention Regulations (AWPPA/AWPPR) and NORDREG which enforce Canadian jurisdiction on entry/use in these waters. Largely, other countries have recognised this claim and the supporting regulations, which work to reaffirm Canada's position.

However, the US does not recognise the Canadian claim, the supporting Article 234 of UNCLOS is increasingly being undermined by climate change, and the previous Trump administration called for tests of Canadian enforcement/jurisdiction through freedom of navigation operations (FONOPs). FONOPs have previously been used by the US to test/undermine sovereignty claims to ocean space, including in the South China Sea. Considering the 51 state rhetoric from the US right now it's not unfathomable that the US will demonstrate Canada's lack of sovereignty/right over the NWP and Arctic Archipelago. They've even got precedent for it when the countries were on friendlier terms - See the 1969 SS Manhattan and the 1985 Polar Sea Icebreaker voyages.

Thanks for the update and clear history. As you say, quite tricky.

Can't help thinking that if Russia doesn't collapse soon, we'll have a full blown European war within a few short years.

When it comes to warfare, that which doesn't kill you makes you stronger. With time and support (from the usual suspects + USA) , they could become quite a formidable military again with all the experience they're picking up in the field.

Every sane country in the world, but especially Europe, needs to use all the tools available to bring down Russia's economy. Fast.

It's the way he / the US seem to be saying 'we've put a deal together, and one side (Russia) is happy to accept it - whilst the difficult Zelensky/Ukrainians aren't'. And therefore blaming Ukraine for it all 'going wrong'.

But the deal is so heavily weighted towards Russia's demands and future expansion plans - that it is clear that Ukraine could never accept it.

It's a bit like saying 'We've agreed that Person A will give Person B £500 for nothing in return" and then being surprised/annoyed that Person A doesn't immediately fall into line and do it.
A couple of days ago a Russian newspaper said Russia won’t accept a deal until they’ve taken back all territory that Ukraine occupies - they don’t want Ukraine to have any bargaining chips, or cards as Trump calls them.

Has anyone seen an update on what’s happening in Kursk?

Last update I saw few days back, Ukraine still held a small area (far less than their original incursion). Russia had added more troops to try to push them out.

Not the first time that a tyrannical fascist dictator has laughed at the POTUS.

Just shy of an hour, but a must watch if you have the time..... and really pretty significant. (If you handle his whiny voice!)

Ben Shapiro, founder of Daily Wire, big US Conservative commentator and influential in MAGA land, travelled to Ukraine and interviewed Zelenskyy.

Not only does Shapiro clearly understand the history and whose the agressor and whose the victim, he raises many of the Trump/MAGA talking points, Zelenskyy debunks the BS brilliantly whilst being respectful.

Could be one of the most significant interviews in a long while as the primary audience will be the MAGA base and Shapiro shows himself to be a sane Conservative and its so refreshing, hes pretty much spot on and clealry states its Putin whose the issue.

multitude of positive comments in the video from US conservatives, thanking him as they too support Ukraine!

Extract from BBC.
No, Trump, you are not nice people, and you are putting a ton of pressure on Ukraine and zero (in fact the opposite) on Russia.
__-----------------------------+++++---------------
"Trump says he's putting a lot of pressure on both Russia and Ukraine to get them to sign a peace deal.

"We are nice people, but we're using a lot of pressure on both."

Trump says he doesn't believe the overnight strikes on Kyiv are an "obstacle to peace".

Secretary of State Marco Rubio added that "this war is end-able", and called the missile attack on Ukraine's capital "horrible".

occured to me the talk around Crimea doesn't mention the other regions, as if they have been settled in principle and Crimea is the last sticking point. also interesting comments from Klitschko suggesting some land could be given up "temporarily". cuold be situation is quite different from the supposed leak.

Yes, it depends on what question Klitschko was asked, and the context.

this isnt a peace proposal, its a surrender/frozen conflict proposal and without any justice whatsoever.

The CIA would hunt to the ends of the earth one terrorist who commits an offence in US killing a few people, and they want to go into business with a terrorist, and let him off scot free, who has raised cities to the ground and mass murdered a million + and stolen tens of thousands of children.
