8,150 folk arriving by boat so far this year, the Government seriously needs to get a grip of this, the crossing season hasn’t really started yet either, it won’t be long until they have tented villages to house these people!

UK and France in talks over migrant returns deal https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c99pg1men8po
That seems flawed
France fast track people they don't want to the uk and we send people back who may just try and cross again ?

You mean the government should do something like this ?

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said:

This government was elected on a promise of change – and within just 6 months we have redeployed resources for a scheme that returned just 4 volunteers and instead worked to remove 16,400 people with no right to be here.

What could possibly go wrong eh, looks like it will be a record year for new arrivals to these shores, thank the lord there are loads of helpful hotels ready and willing to be well looked after by the home office.

Amjad Taha is a political strategist based in the United Arab Emirates.

He has posted several times on X that the main problem we have here in the UK apart from the numbers wanting to come to the UK illegally is we usually have no idea of the background of the people that have arrived off the boats.

The majority of illegal migrants are coming from what is considered by the UK govt as high risk countries like Syria, Iraq & Pakistan etc

A percentage of them may have criminal backgrounds & some may have been radicalised & hold views that don’t align with British values.

The UAE he said don’t allow anyone in their country to live without doing full background checks. Anyone showing any type of radicalism is deported or locked up because they want to protect their society.

This is a big issue for our govt.

West is BEST
We could do with some more skilled workers etc.
but would be nice to see some of the less useful mob sent back. Or prevented from coming over.

All for genuine asylum seekers or people whose presence is mutually beneficial or they need genuine help but the phone thieves, rapists, gang bosses, and assorted fighting age criminals? I think we’ll get along fine without their valuable input.

Why not stay and fight for your counties, like the brave men and women of Ukraine have done?

Hope everybody on this thread has watched 'Go Back To Where You Came From' - available to stream on Channel 4. Adds some perspective to the message politicians have peddled to serve their own self-interest for the best part of a decade now. Incredibly sad.

And for those who then fall back on the 'you can't help everyone' argument...
a) nobody expects us to, lots of other countries have done more and been affected far worse
b) not every refugee wants to come to Britain, whatever politicians would like people to believe and
c) not being able to help everyone is no excuse for not helping some people in desperate need if you're (still) a relatively prosperous, supposedly civilised, country.

And with that, I'm out. If you haven't seen it, I'd urge you to watch the series.

'full background checks' sorry thats hilarious! The UAE and in particularly Dubai has become the new costa del sol in terms of harbouring criminals, including drugs cartel bosses, money launderers and scammers! They will pretty much accept anyone in provided they have money and then go out of their way to provide them with as much secrecy and protection from extradition as possible!

I knew we should've had a smaller guest list.

Yes and as far as they are aware the cartel boss who's wedding it was is still living out there, despite having a 5 million dollar bounty on his head for narcotics trafficking, money laundering, firearms trafficking, and murder: https://www.state.gov/daniel-joseph-kinahan/

Not so good those background checks are they!

Basically until they piss the government off they're safe.

The biggest case in Dutch history is currently ongoing and you'll never guess where he was found...
