In my defence, I was left unsupervised.

And Brighton when we got back. All the pubs by the station absolutely heaving, spilling out onto the streets, with everybody singing. Fantastic,

That day is still so vivid in my mind. The pubs at Victoria were amazing.
Can’t remember what I did the day before yesterday but that day……. wow.
Ended up back at the Montague that night Sid, The Ersk bought a round. :lolol:

Gods country fortnightly
Bit too young back then to go, massive 54k crowd. But a day...

I was there aged 12, standing not behind the goal but roughly alongside where Case took his free kick from…which was also alongside the halftime entertainment. Free entry to the Terrace (downstairs) for anyone who can name who perhaps surprisingly provided the music that afternoon.

Was it a police band or marching band/similar?

Spot on. The brass band of the Metropolitan Police, all in full tit-on-the-head uniform situated in a little bandstand opposite us. This makes me feel 90 years old.

I was there with my dad (bless him), managed to blag some tickets high up in the West stand near the clock end. Had a perfect view of Case's goal and the sight of the clock end erupting will stay with me forever.

I still rank this as my best experience supporting the Albion, maybe even better than the 2-2 Final . My memory of the day (14 year old) was the noise, the colour and the sheer thrill that I was going to Wembley as we drove home afterwards. However, the day is "tainted" slightly because when I got home, my sister had been shopping and bought "Words" by F.R. David, (someone can probably find and post it here!!) and played it incessantly through the evening : rare to hear that song , but if I do, I am immediately bought back to a sunny, spring evening, re-playing the Jimmy Case goal in the front room with a foam football ..
"How can I find a way to make you see, I love you, Words don't come easy......."

Just far enough away from LDC

The other thing was that just where they had been playing, it then got filled with all the bus drivers who had bought fans to the game. These were the old petrol blue southdown uniforms
